Thermal Underwear’s Quiet Revolution

What we mean by ‘quiet revolution’ is that people who might once never have considered wearing thermal underwear, are finding themselves being converted to its numerous lifestyle benefits. Also many people who have used thermals exclusively for winter sports are now discovering year-round uses for their former skiwear.

But possibly the main change brought about by the ‘thermal revolution’, is that more thermal fans are using thermal underwear for relaxing at home and wearing under shirts and shorts on social occasions, which is a real change from previously. People are loving the freedom and comfort thermal underwear brings and so they’re wearing it to barbecues, informal get-togethers, days out exploring the countryside or the beach . . . it’s the ultimate accessory for active comfort.

Thermal underwear can be made from natural or synthetic fabrics. It used to be that wool and cotton fabrics were mainly used because of their natural warmth-retaining properties, but nowadays synthetics like nylon, polyester and polypropylene are regularly used. In fact, most thermal underwear is made up of a mixture of natural and synthetic fabrics.

Thermal underwear should be light-weight, comfortable and of ‘active fit’ – meaning it fits easily under your day clothes and does not restrict your movement in any way. It should insulate your body, whilst employing a fast wicking action to regulate the body temperature.

Yet another dimension: thermal underwear makes for the most perfect loungewear. Really it’s so incredibly snug, the soft contours of the fabric mould to your skin so you feel truly comfortable at all times. And it’s ideal for those of us who work from home – we now prefer to sit around our home-office in our thermals rather than our pyjamas!

Talking of pyjamas, thermal underwear is great for sleeping in too. It is designed to keep your body warm in winter and cool during the summer months. People who previously preferred to sleep ‘au natural’, because they believed they wouldn’t feel comfortable in anything else have been amazed by their transition to thermals. Now they report that they are more comfortable than ever before – whatever the weather or season – and they sleep better.

So whether you love to be active, or you love to relax (we suspect it’s a bit of both), it’s well worth taking a second look at the wonderful range of thermal underwear that’s available online. With so many practical uses and the ultimate in comfort-wear, isn’t it time you joined thermal underwear’s quiet revolution?
